Wrap your home with external insulation with the help of up to €8,000 in SEAI grants
Wrapping your home’s external façade in insulation is a great way to boost the thermal efficiency. By insulating the outside walls you create the thermal barrier that will be felt in winter by keeping heat in but also in the summer by preventing overheating. Your energy bills will be lower and your carbon footprint will be reduced. SEAI grant up to €8,000 available.
Add internal dry lining insulation with the help of up to €4,500 in SEAI grants
If an external wrap is not an option (e.g. you want to keep an existing brick exterior) then internal dry lining might be an option. It is cheaper and more straightforward than an external wrap. It will make a big impact on the comfort levels in your home as it is excellent for heat retention and preventing overheating in summer. As well as reducing your energy bills it will also have environmental benefits. SEAI grant up to €4,500 available.
Pump bonded bead into your cavity walls with the help of up to €1,700 in SEAI grants
Cavity walls offer very little in the way of thermal insulation. So it is a good idea to pump expanded polystyrene (EPS) bonded beads into the wall cavity of your home to form an insulating mass, which significantly reduces thermal transmittance throughout the cavity. This will instantly transform the thermal efficiency of your home, so your home is more cosy and your energy bills are lower. SEAI grant up to €1,700 available.
Choose between spray foam insulation or mineral wool rollout with up to €1,500 in SEAI grants
Mineral wool rollout is an extremely high-performance thermal insulator designed for a wide range of applications where space is at a premium and high acoustic and thermal performance is a must. SEAI grant up to €1,500 available.
Spray foam insulation can be installed in both new and existing homes, and even in the most unusual designs. It adheres to wood and steel frames alike and is effective in any climate.

How long does a full external wrap take and what is the best time of year to do it?
External wrapping can take up to three weeks, weather depending. Rain will delay fitting time as each layer needs to dry completely before the next layer is applied. Summer is the perfect time to insulate your home, by taking advantage of longer dry spells to complete the installation faster. Your home will benefit from the added insulation in the summer months also by keeping you cooler, for longer.
How do I know if my home has cavity walls?
If your external walls are more than 300mm in thickness, then it is possible that there is a cavity. Another way to check is if your electricity box is on an external wall, you may be able to see the wall cavity to the side of the box. Finally, the only way to know for certain is we drill a small, inconspicuous hole in a wall and use a camera probe to view the cavity.
