How will I know if I need to insulate my home to claim the windows / doors grant?

To qualify for the Windows and Doors Grant, your home must achieve a ‘Good’ or ‘Very Good’ Heat Loss Indicator (HLI) rating after the upgrade — meaning an HLI of 2.3 W/m²K or lower on your BER.

In many cases, replacing windows and/or doors alone will be sufficient. However, some homes may require additional insulation (such as attic or wall insulation) to meet the required standard.

You can check your current BER rating here:
https://ndber.seai.ie/pass/ber/search.aspx

If you’re unsure whether insulation will be needed, Energlaze can arrange a BER assessment for you and advise on the best approach to ensure you meet the grant requirements.

Can I get a grant for windows / doors already installed?

Yes.

Can I get a grant to install new windows in my extension?

Yes, you can claim a grant for upgrades done on the original part of the house or for any extensions built before 1st January 2011. Extensions built after 1st Jan 2011 are not eligible.

Can I replace my windows in stages and get a grant each time?

No. SEAI only offers a once-off grant for windows and you must still meet the after-works Heat Loss Indicator (HLI) requirement.

What is a U-value?

The U-value indicates how well a wall, window, or roof, prevents heat loss. A lower U-value indicates better insulation.

What is the heat loss indicator (HLI)?

The Heat Loss Indicator measures how quickly heat escapes from your home. A lower number indicates a warmer, more energy efficient home.
