With an Eddi you can divert solar energy you generate to your immersion to heat your water
Solar PV panels generate free electricity that can be used during the day by all your household appliances. If you are not home during the day, you can add a battery to store all the solar energy generated for use when you get home. And you will also get paid for any excess energy that goes back to the grid, via the Microgeneration scheme (more on that below).
If you have an Eddi, you can divert energy you generate with solar panels to your immersion to heat your water. When you require more electricity than is generated by the panels, the excess power required will first be taken from your battery storage, then from the grid. Note: For safety reasons, your home will remain connected to the grid at all times.
Microgeneration Scheme:
Get paid for excess solar energy that you don't use
The Government’s Microgeneration Support Scheme allows homeowners to get paid for the excess energy generated by their solar panels. The electricity that is generated from solar panels can be used throughout the day for running household appliances (washing machine, dishwasher etc.). If the system has a battery connected, the energy can be used to fill the battery for use later in the day, maximising consumption. But if the battery is full, and your appliances are not running, then the excess energy will go back to the grid. Your energy supplier will then credit your account at an set rate.
