“Of all the components in a building, it is through windows that most heat is lost.”

Energy-efficient glazing is the term used to describe the double glazing or triple glazing used in modern windows in homes. Unlike the original single glazing or old double glazing, energy-efficient glazing incorporates coated (low-emissivity) glass to prevent heat escaping through the windows.

Low-Emissivity (Low-e) Glass

Low-emissivity glass (or low-e glass as it is commonly referred to) is a type of energy-efficient glass designed to prevent heat escaping through your windows to the cold outdoors. Low-e glass has an invisible coating which dramatically reduces heat transfer and reflects interior heat back into your room.

Unfortunately, many older double-glazed units do not contain low-emissivity glass and are therefore not energy efficient. By replacing your existing window glass with low-e glazing, you can improve the energy efficiency of your home, reduce your monthly bills and decrease the size of your carbon footprint. Low-e glazing units can make your home more than twice as energy efficient in comparison to older double glazing with no low-e coating.

EnerGlaze are market leaders in retrofitting your existing window frames with the very latest in low-e glazing. Pilkington Optitherm™ S1 Plus is the latest low-e glass available and offers thermal efficiencies which were previously only achieved using triple glazing.

Heat Loss

“Of all the components in a building, it is through windows that most heat is lost. This is because glass allows heat to escape more readily than most other building materials. For example given the same area of wall and window, the window will allow up to eight times more heat to escape. For this reason it is important that your windows and glass are as efficient as possible.” (Excerpt from “A Guide to Insulating your Homes” published by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) – Source)

To meet the current regulations a minimum standard of double glazing with a 12mm air gap and soft low-e glass is necessary. Pilkington Optitherm™ S1 Plus from EnerGlaze comfortably exceeds this requirement. In addition all our double-glazed units include argon gas in the cavity as well as a warm edge spacer bar, making it the most energy efficient double-glazed unit on the market today.
